The Manila Water Foundation (MWF) is the newest partner of SAFER Foundation in providing and enabling access to clean, potable water to communities affected by disasters.
The United Nations recognizes that clean water and sanitation are vital to the fulfillment of all human rights. The lack of these basic needs is a great contributor to extreme poverty. The MWF’s “Agapay” program responds to the needs of families and communities affected by disasters by distributing bottled drinking water; deploying Mobile Treatment Plants (MTPs); and building handwashing and drinking facilities in public institutions such as schools and health centers.
Last July 30, 2019 at SEAMEO INNOTECH, Quezon City, SAFER signed the MOA with MWF as one of its partners under the Agapay Program. Other Agapay partners present at the ceremonial event include GMA Kapuso Foundation, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya, Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, and Rise Against Hunger Philippines.
Under the partnership, MWF will be deploying 5 gallons of water or deploying MTPs to communities identified by SAFER during an activated appeal. The goal of both parties is to be able to provide the community access to water at the shortest amount of time possible.
To quote Ms. Janine Carreon, MWF Board of Trustee:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
The partnership shows the commitment of MWF to a multi-sectoral and collaborative approach to building a more resilient Philippines. It is hoped that other players in the private sector will follow suit.
