Update on SAFER Homes as of April 28, 2020

SAFER Foundation is in partnership with Aksyon sa Kahandaan sa Kalamidad at Klima (AKKMA) and Nagkakaisang Lakas ng Maralitang Navoteno (NLMNF).

We distributed the third batch of food relief packs to partner communities in Navotas last April 25, 2020 from 6AM to 12NN to avoid the afternoon heat. Jean Serafin, owner of Chexie Rice Trading, is SAFER’s supplier of rice and eggs for the relief packs. Relief distribution is held at her store located inside Navotas Agora market. Vivian and Olive Illut, mother and daughter leaders of NLMNF, coordinated the distribution activity.

Contents of the Food Kit

Each food kit contains 7.5 kilos of rice, 4 cans of sardines, 4 instant noodles and 10 eggs. The sardines and noodles were provided separately by the local supplier of the donor Philippine Humanitarian Coalition which is based in Washington, DC.

Procedure of the Distribution

Identified recipients from Barangay North Bay Boulevard started to arrive in small groups starting at 6AM. About 3 meters from the store and just at the end of the market entrance, Vivian, Olive and other NLMNF leaders were taking care of verifying the identified recipients. The recipient hands over a profile form to Vivian, Vivian replaces it with a number tag, which the recipient then hands over to Jean to claim her relief pack.

Thank you from a mother

Josephine Paser (29 years old) is married and has three children, including an 11-month old baby. Because of the quarantine, her husband currently has no work and, in the meantime, finding odd jobs at the fish port to earn some money. Her family have also received food packs from other groups, but she praises SAFER for providing a bigger food kit. Josephine notes that the food packs will last them 3-4 days. However, she also needs diaper and milk for her baby.

Thank you to the Philippine Humanitarian Coalition in Washington, DC. and our individual donors for helping build a SAFER Philippines!
